Colt New Army & Navy Double Action Revolver
Manufactured: 1906 – Caliber: .32-20 WCF VP – Rare Configuration
Rare Colt Double Action Army Model 1895 VP, a late-production example manufactured in 1906 and chambered in the desirable .32-20 WCF caliber. This Colt New Army & Navy has benefited from a high-quality restoration, giving it a striking appearance while retaining all of its original characteristics.
History
The Colt Double Action Army Model 1892 and its successive improvements (1894, 1895, 1896, 1901 and 1903) represent an important milestone in the evolution of American military revolvers. Developed by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, this model featured a stronger and more reliable double-action mechanism than the earlier Colt Model 1877. It also introduced a swing-out cylinder for rapid reloading, a significant innovation at the time.
Originally chambered in .38 Long Colt, it was also offered in .41 Colt and, more rarely, in .32-20 WCF.
Our Example
Retaining virtually all of its rich blue finish, this revolver immediately stands out for its particularly refined presentation. It has been enhanced with tasteful gold accents on the hammer, trigger, screws, and ejector rod head, elegantly highlighting the lines of this iconic firearm.
All markings remain perfectly sharp, including the famous Colt Rampant Horse, whose fine detail attests to the quality of the restoration performed on an already excellent original firearm. The VP marking confirms its suitability for smokeless powder ammunition. Serial number 257XXX, located beneath the grip frame, corresponds to manufacture in 1906, placing it among the final production examples of this model. The original grips remain in excellent condition.
Mechanically, the revolver functions exceptionally well in both single and double action. Lock-up is precise, with no noticeable play or cylinder gap. The absence of a cylinder drag line indicates very limited use. The 6-inch barrel, chambered in .32-20 WCF, features a mirror-bright bore with only minimal signs of use and strong, well-defined rifling.
Combining the rarity of a late-production 1906 example, the desirability of the .32-20 WCF chambering, and a restoration carried out with great attention to detail, this Colt Double Action New Army and Navyrepresents an outstanding opportunity for the collector of historic American firearms.
Sold with its official classification certificate as a Category D historic firearm, issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House.
