History

Following the success of its double-action revolvers, Smith & Wesson introduced the Safety Hammerless series in 1888, a line of compact revolvers designed for personal protection. Easily identified by their concealed internal hammer, these revolvers offered simple, safe, and rapid operation. Produced in several variations through the early twentieth century, they achieved considerable commercial success thanks to their high manufacturing quality and top-break design, which allowed quick and efficient reloading.

Our Example

Note: This revolver is accompanied by a perfectly fitted holster.

Classic and timeless in appearance, this Smith & Wesson DA Hammerless 1st Model retains more than 80% of its original factory blue finish. Its excellent condition is further reflected in the quality of its markings, which remain sharp, deep, and fully legible. The serial number 86XXX, matching on the grip frame, cylinder, and barrel latch assembly, confirms its originality. The factory grips remain in very good condition, with only a discreet repair beneath the left panel.

Mechanically, this revolver remains in excellent working order, with tight lock-up, no noticeable play, and no visible cylinder gap issues. Opening and extraction are smooth and effortless. The 3-inch barrel features a bright mirror bore with strong, well-defined rifling throughout.

This Smith & Wesson double-action black powder revolver in .32 caliber is a fine representative example of the models that helped establish the reputation and success of the famous American manufacturer during the late nineteenth century.
