Winchester Rifle – Model 1895 Takedown
Manufactured in 1922 – Caliber: .30-06 Springfield – Mirror Bore, Takedown Configuration
This Winchester Model 1895 Takedown, chambered in the highly desirable .30-06 Springfield caliber, combines John Moses Browning’s iconic design with a takedown configuration particularly sought after by collectors. A characterful American Winchester rifle, representative of the evolution of lever-action firearms during the first half of the 20th century.
History
Designed by John Moses Browning and introduced in 1895, the Winchester Model 1895 marked a major step forward in the development of lever-action rifles. Its fixed box magazine allowed the use of spitzer (pointed) cartridges, unlike the tubular magazines found on earlier Winchester models. Adopted in several military configurations, it is notably associated with Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. Produced until 1931, the Model 1895 remains one of the most iconic rifles in Winchester history.
Our Example
Presented in remarkably original condition, this Winchester Model 1895 lever-action rifle, in desirable Takedown configuration, retains most of its original factory blue finish. The Winchester markings, patent dates, model designation, and .30-06 caliber markings remain clear and well defined.
Serial number 415XXX, stamped beneath the lower tang, dates production to 1922. The wood furniture remains in excellent condition, displaying an attractive and even patina. The correct steel buttplate is perfectly fitted to the stock.
Mechanically, this Winchester functions very well, with crisp and positive ejection. The 24-inch barrel, chambered in .30-06 Springfield, features a mirror-bright bore with strong, well-defined rifling. This classic rifle also retains its original sights.
With its highly desirable Takedown configuration, sought-after .30-06 Springfield chambering, and excellent overall condition, this Winchester Model 1895 represents an outstanding addition to any collection of antique American firearms and stands as a fine example of Winchester’s legendary production.
The firearm is sold with its official Category D(e) classification certificate, issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House (Banc National d'Épreuve).
