History
The Smith & Wesson First Model Hand Ejector, a double-action revolver originally chambered in .32 S&W Long, was produced by the American company starting in 1896. In 1899, Smith & Wesson introduced a new version in .32-20 WCF caliber (also called .32-20), officially designated the S&W .32-20 Hand Ejector First Model D.A.
Manufactured only between 1899 and Produced in 1902, with only 5,311 examples made, this model stands out for its particularly modern design for the time. It ushered in the era of swing-out cylinder revolvers for Smith & Wesson, allowing for faster and safer reloading, and featured a reinforced frame, better suited to smokeless powder (SPF) ammunition, marking a significant step in the evolution of American handguns.
Our Model
This example is among the rarest Smith & Wesson double-action revolvers, presented in very fine original condition.
Its deep bluing is largely preserved, with a uniform and particularly attractive appearance. The hammer and trigger retain their original case hardening. The markings are complete and perfectly legible: the brand logo on the frame, the inscription “.32-20” on the side of the barrel, as well as the Smith & Wesson address and patents engraved on the top of the barrel. The serial number 36XX, visible on the butt plate and cylinder, confirms that this is a First Model Hand Ejector. The original grips, in perfect condition and finely fitted, complete the set.
Mechanically, the firearm functions perfectly in both single and double action. The cylinder opens and the spent casings are extracted effortlessly. The trigger is smooth, the indexing precise, with no play or gap. The 5-inch barrel, chambered in .32-20, has a mirror-bright bore with very slight signs of use. This Smith & Wesson First Model Hand Ejector .32-20 is an exceptional piece, representative of the Springfield firm's expertise at the dawn of the 20th century.
It can chamber both .32-20 black powder ammunition and .32-20 Sologne Cowboy ammunition, available on our website (see the Ammunition section).
Weapon accompanied by its Category D classification certificate, issued by the National Proof House of Saint-Étienne.
