History
The Winchester Model 1886 is a powerful lever-action rifle designed by John Moses Browning, renowned for its robustness and power. Designed to fire high-charge centerfire cartridges, it quickly became a weapon of choice for big game hunting and certain military uses. A true technological advancement, it was widely used in the United States and other countries, appealing to hunters, shooters, and law enforcement. Produced in several variations, finishes, and calibers, it remained in the catalog until 1935, with a total of approximately 160,000 units manufactured. Its reinforced mechanism allowed the use of more powerful cartridges, making it one of the highest-performing rifles of its time.
Our Model
The configuration of this Winchester in .45-90 caliber, a cartridge still in production today, remains particularly popular with both shooters and collectors, notably thanks to its high-capacity tubular magazine and the power of this iconic caliber.
The metal parts have been carefully restored and display a beautiful, uniform bronze color, free of any oxidation. The markings are clearly visible and perfectly accurate, including the caliber designation ".45-90" stamped on the top of the barrel. The serial number corresponds to a 1901 manufacture. The original wooden parts have a beautiful, even varnish finish and remain in very good condition, despite a small, old chip on the right side of the forend. The metal butt plate is perfectly fitted.
Mechanically, the action is flawless: smooth cocking, precise locking, and a crisp, powerful trigger pull. The 28-inch octagonal barrel, chambered in .45-90, has a bright bore with deep, even rifling, ensuring still perfectly usable accuracy.
This beautiful Winchester, in its classic configuration with a powerful caliber, perfectly illustrates the quality of the brand's manufacture during this period.
Category D firearm, accompanied by its classification certificate issued by the National Proof House of Saint-Étienne, available for sale without restriction.
