History
The Colt Single Action Army, better known as the Colt Peacemaker, is one of the most iconic revolvers in American firearms history. Introduced in 1873 by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, it was quickly adopted by the U.S. Army as the standard sidearm for its cavalry regiments, earning a worldwide reputation for strength, reliability and simplicity.
Its robust design made it equally popular with soldiers, lawmen, ranchers, settlers and frontiersmen throughout the American West. Produced in numerous barrel lengths and calibers, the Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most sought-after antique revolvers among collectors and Cowboy Action Shooting enthusiasts.
Our revolver
This 1883 Colt Single Action Army has undergone a complete restoration, including the replacement of the necessary components to restore proper mechanical function. The revolver features a quality nickel refinish with bright, even metal surfaces free from oxidation. As commonly encountered on restored firearms, the original markings have been partially softened, while remaining consistent with this period of manufacture. The ".45" caliber marking is still clearly visible on the left side of the barrel.
Originally fitted with hard rubber grips, this revolver is now equipped with finely engraved ivory-style grips. They are well fitted and slightly slimmer at the front, providing a comfortable grip while maintaining an attractive period appearance.
Mechanically, the revolver functions very well. The characteristic four Colt clicks are well defined, the hammer cocks smoothly, timing is precise, and the revolver shows virtually no play or excessive cylinder gap. The 5½-inch barrel retains a mirror-bright bore with strong rifling, reflecting its excellent state of preservation.
This restored Colt Single Action Army Peacemaker represents an attractive example for a collection devoted to American Old West firearms or for enthusiasts of Cowboy Action Shooting.
The revolver is accompanied by its official French National Proof House (Saint-Étienne) Category D classification certificate.
