History
The Winchester Model 1895 rifle is an iconic firearm in American history, designed by the renowned John Moses Browning and produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Introduced in 1895, it distinguished itself from other Winchester models by its ability to chamber more powerful ammunition, thanks to a fixed internal magazine. Unlike earlier lever-action rifles that utilized a tubular magazine (where cartridges are aligned end-to-end), the Model 1895 features a fixed magazine located beneath the action, allowing for the use of pointed-bullet ammunition. This model also saw military service, notably during the Spanish-American War, where it was used by soldiers including the famous Theodore Roosevelt and his "Rough Riders" regiment. Production of the Winchester Model 1895 ceased in 1940, with approximately 426,000 units manufactured.
Our Model
This impressive Winchester Model 1895 collector's piece, manufactured in 1898, is in perfect working order. Restored during the 20th century, it is presented today in exceptional condition, featuring superb period-style scroll engraving and a metal finish that retains 100% of its original bluing. Certain metal components have been embellished—specifically the hammer and the top of the receiver—with an elegant engraved checkering pattern. The original markings have been preserved and remain correct. The wood components are carefully finished and feature precise checkering. The light-colored wood is in excellent condition, save for a few minor handling marks.
The mechanical action is in perfect condition: the cocking mechanism is smooth, and the trigger pull is very crisp. The 22-inch barrel, chambered in .30-40 Krag, has a mirror-like bore and can—without exaggeration—be described as new. An adjustable Williams sight system has been installed, harmoniously complementing this prestigious firearm.
This engraved Winchester 1895 is a rare American collector's piece in exceptional, virtually unmatched condition.
The firearm comes with a Saint-Étienne certificate classifying it as Category D.
Note: We can also supply new Hornady .30-40 caliber brass cases with this firearm.
