History

Smith & Wesson’s .32 and .38 caliber double-action revolvers played a pivotal role in the brand's dominance of the pocket revolver market in the late 19th century. Produced in the hundreds of thousands, they generated massive demand not only in the United States but also in Europe and across the globe. The .32 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver—and the Hammerless model in particular—was highly prized. Lacking an exposed hammer, it offered the advantage of not snagging on clothing, making it ideal for concealed carry. The Smith & Wesson Safety Second Model represents an evolution of the first model, featuring a modified cylinder release mechanism. Today, it is a highly sought-after collector's item that exemplifies late 19th-century American handgun manufacturing.

Our Model

This Smith & Wesson revolver is an entirely original Second Model, preserved in remarkable mechanical and cosmetic condition. Its nickel finish remains exceptionally bright, covering over 95% of the surface with only minor signs of handling wear. The hammer retains a significant amount of its original case-hardening, while the trigger guard preserves its original bluing. The markings are crisp, fully legible, and entirely correct for the model. Serial number 129XXX—found on the butt and matching the cylinder and release mechanism—confirms it is a genuine, complete Second Model. The original grips, featuring the S&W logo, are in excellent condition and free of defects.

Mechanically, this revolver functions perfectly: there is no play in the lock-up or cylinder, no barrel-cylinder gap, and the action offers precise indexing along with smooth opening and extraction. The mechanism exhibits very slight resistance, indicating extremely limited use. The short 3-inch barrel, chambered in .32 S&W, features a mirror-like bore with deep rifling and no damage—showing only a few traces of use.

A classic, impeccably preserved version of one of Smith & Wesson’s great successes.
