History

The Colt Single Action Army, also known as the Colt Peacemaker, is a true legend in the history of American firearms. Introduced in 1873 by Colt’s Manufacturing Company, this revolver quickly gained worldwide renown thanks to its ruggedness, reliability, and pivotal role in the conquest of the American West. Officially adopted by the U.S. Army to equip its cavalry regiments, the Colt SAA established itself as the definitive weapon of an era. Its simple, solid, and effective design made it an ideal companion in the field for soldiers and civilians alike—whether pioneers or outlaws. Immortalized in countless Western films and serving as a military, civilian, and legendary firearm, the Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced.

Our Model

This collectible Colt Single Action Army Model 1873 Western revolver comes to us in an untouched nickel-plated condition. Its original nickel finish remains largely intact but shows slight signs of age, giving it a beautiful satin patina today. The markings are correct and clearly visible, though slightly faded: the "Six Shooter" caliber marking is distinguishable on the side of the barrel, as is the two-line Colt address on the top—perfectly consistent with the 4¾-inch barrel length. The delicate "Colt pony" stamp is still clearly visible, indicating a firearm that has remained unrestored. The serial number is matching—identical across the various parts as it should be—and the number 156XXX indicates manufacture in 1894. Superb gutta-percha grips, in excellent condition and perfectly fitted, complete the piece.

Mechanically, it is in very good condition, featuring the four characteristic clicks of the Colt cocking action, a smooth and pleasant trigger pull, perfect indexing, and minimal play and cylinder gap consistent with normal use. The 4¾-inch barrel in .44-40 caliber (known as .44 WCF) shows some signs of use but retains crisp, well-defined rifling that ensures accuracy.

This fine Colt Frontier Six Shooter revolver, featuring its original nickel finish and short-barrel configuration, is an iconic collector's item representing the firearms of the American West and the world of Westerns.

Category D firearm; sold without restriction and supplied with a classification certificate issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House.
