This Colt Army 1860 revolver is a piece of history. Manufactured in 1862 during the Union Army's major procurement drives, it undoubtedly saw service in the conflict. It was subsequently returned to the arsenal for refurbishment and most likely reissued to the 9th or 10th Cavalry—bearing the specific "US" marking—units that played an active role in the Indian Wars following the Civil War.
US Cavalry Issue Colt Revolver
Evidence of use is clearly visible. The metal surfaces have developed a tobacco-brown patina. The frame is the military model, featuring the cutout for an optional shoulder stock. Markings remain visible and are correct for the model; an inspector's mark is visible on the trigger guard. This specific series of Colt 1860s bears the "C&R" mark on the front left side of the barrel and the "US" mark beneath the trigger guard. Serial numbers are mismatched in places, a result of the return to the arsenal. The frame serial number (80xxx) indicates manufacture in 1862, at the height of the Civil War. The mechanism remains in good condition, though it shows some signs of wear. The .44 caliber barrel retains crisp, deep rifling. The grip is original and in excellent condition. This collectible Colt offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of American history spanning both the Civil War and the Indian Wars.
Collector's firearm sold with its Category D classification certificate issued by the BNE Saint-Étienne.
