Colt Automatic Pistol Model 1900 Collector’s Item
Colt Model 1900 collector’s item, category D firearm, sold without accessories.
At the end of the 19th century, the United States had some catching up to do with Europe in the field of automatic pistols. Among the key European companies and inventors, Mauser, Luger, Von Mannlicher, and Borchardt are essential names. In 1898, a prototype Colt Automatic Pistol, designed by John M. Browning, was produced and offered as a prototype to the American armed forces. Two years later, this model, called the Colt Automatic Pistol Model 1900, entered mass production. A total of 3,500 units were produced between 1900 and 1903, with only a very small proportion destined for military orders. This Colt collectible pistol is the first model in a long and successful series of handguns.
