History
Nicknamed "The Gun That Won the West," the Winchester Model 1873 is one of the most famous firearms in American history. Produced from 1873 to 1923 in over 700,000 units, it popularized the .44-40 Winchester Center Fire cartridge, which was quickly adopted by the Colt Frontier revolver as well. Available in Rifle, Carbine, and Musket versions, the Winchester 1873 remains today the most representative collectible firearm of the Old West.
Our Model
This Winchester Model 1873 Rifle is presented in untouched original condition. The metal parts have acquired a tobacco patina, with a few small superficial blemishes consistent with a firearm that has survived nearly 150 years. A light cleaning could improve its appearance while preserving its authenticity. The Winchester address on the barrel remains visible despite partial cleaning. The caliber is no longer marked on the barrel, but the firearm has been checked and verified to fire in .44-40 WCF. Serial number 106XXX corresponds to a manufacture date of 1882. The original wood stock has a beautiful, uniform color, without any repairs, and the metal buttplate is perfectly fitted.
Mechanically, the rifle is in good working order. It cocks smoothly, and the firing pin strikes cleanly. The round barrel, chambered in .44-40 WCF, has a satin finish with well-defined rifling and only moderate signs of use.
This Winchester Model 1873 Rifle is a true Old West collector's item, ideal for the collector seeking an authentic Winchester from the golden age of the Frontier.
The rifle comes with its official Category D(e) classification certificate, issued by the National Proof House of Saint-Étienne.
