History
The Smith & Wesson company quickly became famous for the quality of its products. The Smith & Wesson First Model Single Shoot 1891 pistol was introduced in 1893 in a single-shot version, specifically designed for precision shooting. This model, the precursor to a highly successful series offered in several calibers, made its mark on its era and inspired subsequent generations of products to this day. This pistol uses the frame of the Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver, allowing for the interchangeability of .32 or .38 caliber barrels in this version. Of the 1,251 units originally manufactured, only 862 were chambered in .22 caliber. Renowned for its exceptional performance, this model was chosen by the United States Olympic shooting team as well as by numerous precision shooters. A Smith & Wesson pistol of this caliber holds a place of honor in any collection of antique firearms.
