History
The Colt Single Action Army, also known as the Colt Peacemaker, is a true legend in the history of American firearms. Introduced in 1873 by Colt’s Manufacturing Company, this revolver quickly gained worldwide renown thanks to its ruggedness, reliability, and pivotal role in the winning of the American West. Officially adopted by the U.S. Army to equip its cavalry regiments, the Colt SAA established itself as the definitive sidearm of an entire era.
Its simple, solid, and effective design made it an ideal companion in the field for soldiers and civilians alike—whether pioneers or outlaws. Immortalized in countless Western films and serving as a military, civilian, and iconic weapon, the Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most emblematic revolvers ever produced.
Our Model
This Colt Single Action Army, dating from 1881, has undergone a meticulous older restoration, resulting in excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition today. It is presented in a high-quality modern case.
The frame features a striking case-hardened finish, while the barrel, cylinder, and trigger guard sport a blued finish. Slight signs of wear—typical of holster carry or moderate shooting—add a touch of vintage authenticity. The markings have been partially softened by the restoration process; on the barrel, only the alignment mark remains visible. The firearm is matching-numbered, bearing the serial number 66XXX on the frame, trigger guard, and butt—attesting to its desirable early 1881 manufacture. It features a beautifully fitted stock bearing a few "kill mark" style customizations.
Mechanically, the revolver is fully functional: the action is firm and precise, with no significant cylinder gap and only slight play consistent with use. The 7½-inch .45 caliber barrel has a smooth, satin-like bore with crisp rifling and minor signs of use.
This restored 1881 Colt Single Action Army perfectly embodies the legend of the "Peacemaker," an enduring symbol of the conquest of the American West.
The firearm comes in a modern, custom-fitted case containing the key, a disassembly tool, and six inert .45 caliber cartridges.
Classified as a Category D firearm, it is accompanied by a classification certificate issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House and is available for purchase by adults without a special permit.
