History
The Colt Single Action Army, also known as the Colt Peacemaker, is a true legend in the history of American firearms. Introduced in 1873 by the Colt Manufacturing Company, this revolver quickly gained worldwide renown thanks to its robustness, reliability, and its central role in the conquest of the American West. Officially adopted by the US Army to equip its cavalry regiments, the Colt SAA established itself as the standard-issue weapon of an era. Its simple, robust, and effective design made it an ideal companion in the field, for both military personnel and civilians, whether pioneers, lawmen, or outlaws.
At once a military, civilian, and legendary weapon, immortalized in countless Hollywood productions, the Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced. The earliest models were primarily intended to fulfill contracts with the US Army.
Initially, Colt applied the "US" marking before the case hardening process. This method was quickly criticized by the military and abandoned, resulting in some weapons ultimately sold on the civilian market bearing the "US" marking, despite never having seen actual military service.
Our Model
This early production Colt Single Action Army is presented in exceptional, near-mint condition, just as it might have left the Colt workshops more than 150 years ago. This is a perfectly restored example, executed with meticulous attention to detail to replicate the original finish and specifications. The firearm is flawless: the frame boasts a rich and deep case hardening, while the blued parts are 100% intact with a high-quality, lustrous finish. The cylinder retains its sharp edges, a testament to its integrity, and the drag line is virtually nonexistent, indicating exceptionally careful handling since the restoration. The markings are clear, complete, and typical of early production models: patents on two lines and barrel markings in italics. The "C" proof mark corresponds to the Colt factory inspector, while the "P" attests to the factory proof test. The firearm is a matching number, bearing the serial number 17XXX, visible on the frame, trigger guard, butt plate, and cylinder, in accordance with the production standards of the period. The "donut"-style ejector head is also characteristic of the very first production runs. The grip, of civilian manufacture, is in perfect condition and perfectly fitted.
Mechanically, this revolver is flawless: smooth operation, absolutely no play or cylinder gap, and four perfectly defined Colt clicks. The 7.5-inch barrel has a near-new, mirror-like bore, a guarantee of accuracy and longevity.
This early Colt Single Action Army Peacemaker fully embodies the symbolic weapon of the American Frontier, presented here in rare and remarkable condition, making it a top-tier piece for a discerning collector.
Category D firearm, accompanied by its official classification certificate issued by the National Proof House of Saint-Étienne, available for sale to adults.
