History

The Colt Single Action Army, also known as the Colt Peacemaker, is a true legend in the history of American firearms. Introduced in 1873 by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, this revolver quickly gained worldwide recognition thanks to its robustness, reliability, and major role in the settlement of the American West. Officially adopted by the U.S. Army to equip its cavalry regiments, the Colt SAA became the sidearm of an entire era. Its simple, strong, and effective design made it an ideal companion for soldiers, settlers, lawmen, and outlaws alike. Immortalized by countless Western films, the Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced.

Our Example

This collectible Colt revolver is accompanied by its original Colt factory archive letter confirming its original configuration.

This Colt Peacemaker has survived in excellent, untouched condition. The metal surfaces display an attractive and uniform gunmetal patina, reflecting an authentic firearm that has never been restored. The markings are crisp, sharp, and correct throughout, including the two-line barrel address characteristic of short-barreled examples from this period. The serial number is matching, as it should be, appearing consistently on the various components, and serial number 123XXX indicates manufacture in 1887. Beautiful hard-rubber gutta-percha grips, perfectly fitted and remarkably well preserved, complete this outstanding revolver.

The mechanical condition is excellent, with no noticeable play or cylinder gap. It retains the four distinct clicks characteristic of Colt's single-action lockwork, along with a smooth hammer action, perfect timing, and precise lock-up. The 4¾-inch barrel chambered in .45 Colt features a bright, lightly frosted bore with strong, well-defined rifling, preserving its full shooting potential.

In its most sought-after configuration, this Colt Peacemaker perfectly embodies the spirit of the American West and represents a cornerstone piece in any quality Western firearms collection.

Category D antique firearm, sold with its official classification certificate issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House (Banc National d'Épreuve).
