A Smith & Wesson revolver with stunning aesthetics and condition

History

Smith & Wesson Double Action revolvers in .32 and .38 calibers, featuring an exposed hammer, have always enjoyed great success. Although one might have expected the public to favor the "Hammerless" model for a pocket revolver, the traditional version with an exposed hammer remains highly sought after. It offers the versatility of shooting in both single and double action. The model presented here is a 4th Model—a worthy successor to earlier versions—incorporating several improvements, including a new cylinder stop. This collectible Smith & Wesson revolver is one of the approximately 240,000 units produced in this iconic series.

Our Model

This collectible Smith & Wesson revolver stands out for its rare and elegant appearance, enhanced by a deep, vintage-style blued finish and a pair of exceptionally rare grips. It features flawless mechanics and a mirror-like bore.

The metal components retain the majority of their original bluing, which remains bright and uniform. The hammer and trigger still display their original case-hardening. The factory markings are correct, crisp, and deeply stamped on the barrel, reflecting high-quality craftsmanship. The serial number (91XXX), found on various parts of the frame and cylinder, indicates a desirable early production run of the 4th Model.

The mechanism is in perfect condition, with no play or excessive cylinder gap, whether in single or double action. Opening the barrel-cylinder assembly requires slight resistance—a typical sign of a lightly used firearm—and there is absolutely no locking play. The short 3-inch barrel, chambered in .32 S&W Short, features a mirror-like bore with crisp, deep rifling, attesting to its excellent mechanical condition. This revolver is further complemented by a pair of grips of an extremely rare pattern—in perfect condition—that highlight the understated elegance and refinement of this Smith & Wesson collector's piece.

The firearm comes with its Category D classification certificate issued by the Saint-Étienne proof house.
