Manufactured: 1875-1888 – Caliber: .44-40 – Original nickel finish

History

The Remington Model 1875 was developed to compete with the Colt Single Action Army Model 1873. Produced from 1875 to 1888 in approximately 30,000 to 40,000 examples, it was primarily marketed to civilian customers, with a limited number supplied under military and government contracts, including the Indian Police.

Rugged and well regarded for its design, the Remington 1875 became part of the history of the American Frontier and remains one of the classic revolvers associated with the Old West.

Our Model

This Remington Model 1875 remains in its original configuration, with no restoration. Approximately 90% of its original nickel finish remains, displaying an even overall appearance. The Remington barrel markings are correct for the model and remain clearly visible. The screw heads are in very good condition, consistent with a properly maintained revolver.

The 11XX serial number, stamped on the frame, corresponds to an early production example. The original wooden grips are correctly fitted and consistent with the revolver.

Mechanically, the revolver features positive cocking, a smooth trigger pull and precise cylinder indexing. The cylinder shows no significant play and the barrel-to-cylinder gap is very tight. The 7½-inch .44-40 barrel has a satin bore with well-defined rifling.

This Remington Model 1875 represents a representative example of the American revolvers associated with the Frontier and the expansion of the American West.

The revolver is accompanied by its official French National Proof House (Saint-Étienne) Category D(e) classification certificate.
