History
The Remington Double Derringer Model 95—commonly known simply as the Derringer—is one of the most iconic compact pistols in the history of the American West. Produced by the Remington Arms Company starting in 1866, it enjoyed enduring success until 1935, with over 150,000 units manufactured. Also known as the "Over-Under Derringer" due to its stacked barrels, this model is chambered in .41 Rimfire and features a short barrel of approximately 3 inches. Available in several variants, it was prized for its compactness, elegance, and concealability, becoming both a popular choice for personal defense and an iconic symbol of the Wild West era.
Our Model
Originally featuring a nickel finish, this Remington Double Derringer Model 95 now displays significant remaining nickel plating alongside a uniform, light "gunmetal" patina, lending it an authentic aesthetic. The markings, correct for this model, are finely engraved on the top of the barrel and remain perfectly legible, while the serial number (9xx), stamped beneath the barrel, confirms its authenticity. The piece is completed by superb gutta-percha grips that are perfectly fitted and in an excellent state of preservation. Mechanically, the firearm is in excellent working order, with no play or significant defects: the cocking and striking actions are powerful, and operation is reliable and precise. The action is slightly stiff, indicating very limited use, and the opening lugs are intact—an important detail for this model. Both barrels show some signs of use but remain in fine overall condition, consistent with the weapon's age.
This Remington Derringer is thus an elegant collector's piece that epitomizes the pocket pistols of the American West.
The firearm comes with its official classification certificate (Category D), issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House.
