History
Introduced by Remington Arms in 1866, the Model 95 Double Derringer became an instant commercial success. Production continued until 1935 with more than 150,000 pistols manufactured, making it the company's most successful Derringer. Its distinctive over-under twin barrel configuration, compact dimensions and dependable mechanism made it a favorite concealed self-defense pistol among travelers, gamblers, merchants and many legendary figures of the American Frontier.
Today, the Remington Double Derringer is considered one of the classic symbols of the American West and an essential addition to any serious collection of antique American firearms.
Our Model
This attractive Remington Model 95 Third Model retains approximately 100% of its original factory nickel finish, an increasingly difficult condition to find. All metal surfaces remain free from corrosion. The hammer, trigger and center screw still display their original blue finish, creating the attractive factory contrast typical of these pistols. The original barrel address markings remain sharp and fully legible. The serial number 6xx, stamped beneath the barrel and naturally softened by decades of opening and closing the action, remains identifiable and authentic. The characteristic frame "ears", often damaged on this model, are in excellent condition. The original gutta-percha grips are exceptionally well preserved, showing no cracks or repairs and fitting the frame perfectly.
Mechanically, the pistol functions perfectly. The hammer cocks positively, the firing mechanism is strong and reliable, and the barrel release operates smoothly without looseness. Both .41 Rimfire barrels retain bright bores with well-defined rifling and only light signs of normal use.
With its outstanding original finish, excellent mechanics and remarkable state of preservation, this Remington Model 95 Double Derringer represents an exceptional opportunity for collectors of authentic American Old West firearms.
The pistol is supplied with its official French National Proof House (Saint-Étienne) Category D classification certificate.
