The Colt 1851 is said to have been Colonel Colt's favorite model. It is certainly also a favorite of many 19th-century Americans and many antique gun collectors today. This model was manufactured until 1873, a very long career of over 20 years and more than 215,000 units. Capitalizing on the popularity of Western firearms in the 1970s, the Colt company remanufactured some vintage models as perfect reproductions of the period firearms. This is the Colt Second Generation series, which was an instant success and whose models have also become collector's items. Today, collectible revolvers are hard to find.
