History

Designed by Arthur W. Savage, the Savage Model 1899 is one of the most innovative lever-action rifles in American history. Its rotating magazine allows the use of pointed-bullet cartridges, offering a technical advantage. considerable influence on tubular magazine rifles of the same era. Produced in numerous calibers, it quickly became a benchmark for North American hunters before being renamed the Model 99 in the 1920s. The 20-inch barrel Carbine versions are particularly sought after by collectors today.

Our Model

This Savage Model 1899 Carbine is in pristine, untouched condition. The metal parts retain a very good proportion of their original bluing, while the lever still shows some nice case hardening. The markings are perfectly true and deeply impressed, including the designation ".30-30" and the inscription "Savage Hi-Pressure Steel" on the barrel. The serial number 265XXX corresponds to a 1924 manufacture. The original, specific wood is in excellent condition with a beautiful, uniform color, without any repairs or flaws, and is complemented by its front and rear sling swivels and a perfectly fitting metal buttplate. Adjusted.

Mechanically, the firearm is in excellent working order. The action is smooth and the ejection powerful. The 20-inch .30-30 caliber barrel has a mirror-bright bore, with deep, perfectly preserved rifling in near-new condition.

In its desirable Carbine configuration, this Savage Model 1899 is a genuine American collector's long gun, equally appealing to the collector and the enthusiast of historical firearms.
