Winchester Rifle - Model 1895
Manufactured: 1914 - Caliber: .30-06 Springfield - Barrel: 22" mirror bore - Lyman sights

History
Designed by John Moses Browning and introduced in 1895, the Winchester Model 1895 represents a major evolution in the history of lever-action rifles. Its fixed box magazine allows the use of pointed bullets, unlike the tubular magazines found on earlier models. Adopted in several military configurations, it is notably associated with Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. Produced until 1931, with some deliveries continuing according to contract requirements, it remains one of the most iconic firearms in Winchester's history.
Our Example
This Winchester Model 1895 in its classic rifle configuration has retained a remarkable original condition, with a deep and well-preserved original blue finish. The Winchester markings, patent references, model designation, and caliber markings remain clearly visible. A "61" marking is also present on the bolt; its exact origin and meaning have yet to be confirmed, although it may correspond to an inventory or assignment marking. The serial number 87XXX, stamped beneath the lower tang lever, corresponds to a 1914 production date. The wooden furniture remains in exceptional condition, displaying an attractive color and showing no significant damage. The correct steel buttplate is perfectly fitted. The rifle has also retained its saddle ring, a characteristic feature of this configuration.
Mechanically, this Winchester functions very well, with positive and reliable ejection. The 22-inch barrel chambered in .30-06 Springfield features a perfect mirror bore with deep, well-defined rifling. This rifle is equipped with a front and rear Lyman sight system, a highly appreciated option among shooters.
This Winchester Model 1895 rifle combines excellent overall preservation, well-maintained original features, and desirable Lyman sights. It will appeal equally to collectors of historic American rifles and to shooting enthusiasts seeking a classic example of Winchester production.
The firearm is sold with its official Category D(e) classification certificate, issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House.
