A Winchester Model 1895 Takedown in superb original configuration, retaining a beautiful patina, excellent mechanical condition, and a pristine, mirror-bright bore. An iconic American collector's firearm representing the era of the Wild West and the evolution of lever-action rifles toward smokeless powder calibers.

History

Designed by John Moses Browning for the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, the Winchester Model 1895 is one of the last great lever-action rifles of the late 19th century. Introduced in 1895, it distinguished itself by abandoning the tubular magazine in favor of a fixed vertical box magazine, allowing for the safe use of pointed-bullet cartridges. This innovation enabled the use of new, faster, and more powerful smokeless powder ammunition, making the Model 1895 the most modern lever-action rifle of its time. Offered in numerous civilian and military calibers, it enjoyed a distinguished career both in the United States and abroad. The Takedown version—which can be disassembled into two parts without tools—is a favorite among collectors. Designed for easy transport without compromising accuracy, it remains one of the most sought-after variants of the Winchester 1895 today.

Our Model

This Winchester Model 1895 Takedown in .30-03 caliber is presented in excellent original condition. The firearm retains a significant amount of its original bluing, and the metal parts are sound and free of oxidation. The Winchester markings, patent details, model designation, and caliber are deeply stamped and perfectly legible. The original wood features a beautiful, uniform tone and a natural patina, showing only minor signs of use. Traces of a previous sling mount are visible beneath the buttstock and the barrel. The original metal buttplate is perfectly fitted.

Mechanically, the firearm functions flawlessly: smooth lever action, firm locking, crisp ejection, and a strong firing pin strike. Its 24-inch "Rifle" barrel, chambered in .30-03, has a mirror-like bore with deep, well-defined rifling.

In this rare "Takedown" configuration, this Winchester Model 1895 is an essential piece for any collection of antique American firearms, while remaining a rifle highly prized by historical shooting enthusiasts.

The firearm is sold with its official classification certificate designating it as a Category D historical firearm, issued by the Saint-Étienne National Proof House.
